🍣 How to Make Sushi at Home – Easy Sushi Recipe
Sushi is a popular Japanese dish made with seasoned rice, seaweed (nori), and a variety of fillings such as fish, vegetables, and more. Making sushi at home is fun, and this recipe will guide you step by step.
📝 Ingredients:
For Sushi Rice:
2 cups sushi rice (short-grain rice)
2 ½ cups water
¼ cup rice vinegar
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
For Sushi Rolls (You can choose your favorite fillings):
Nori sheets (seaweed)
1 cucumber (cut into thin strips)
1 carrot (cut into thin strips)
1 avocado (sliced)
Cooked shrimp, crab sticks, or smoked salmon (optional)
Soy sauce (for dipping)
Pickled ginger and wasabi (optional)
👨🍳 Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Sushi Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Add the rice and water to a pot or rice cooker and cook as per normal rice-cooking instructions.
In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Do not boil.
Once the rice is cooked, gently mix in the vinegar mixture while the rice is still hot. Let it cool to room temperature.
Step 2: Prepare the Fillings
Cut all vegetables into thin strips.
Prepare any cooked or raw fish if using.
Place everything ready on a clean surface for rolling.
Step 3: Roll the Sushi
Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and cover it with plastic wrap.
Put one sheet of nori (shiny side down) on the mat.
Wet your hands with water and gently press a thin layer of rice over the nori, leaving 1 inch at the top free.
Add your fillings in a line across the center of the rice.
Roll the sushi tightly using the mat, pressing gently.
Seal the edge with a little water.
Cut the roll into bite-size pieces using a sharp knife dipped in water.
Step 4: Serve
Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
Enjoy your homemade sushi!
💡 Tips:
Keep your hands wet when working with the rice to avoid sticking.
Use a very sharp knife to slice the rolls cleanly.
You can also try inside-out rolls (rice on the outside) once you're more confident.
