🍳 Easy Shakshuka Recipe – Middle Eastern Poached Eggs in Tomato Sauce

Shakshuka is a delicious and healthy Middle Eastern dish made with poached eggs in a spicy tomato and pepper sauce. It’s perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even dinner!

✅ Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 onion (finely chopped)

  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)

  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional for heat)

  • 1 can (400g) chopped tomatoes

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 4 eggs

  • Fresh parsley or coriander (for garnish)

  • Crumbled feta cheese (optional)

  • Bread for serving (like pita or crusty bread)

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat.

  2. Add the onion and bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until soft.

  3. Add the garlic, cumin, paprika, and chili flakes. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

  4. Pour in the chopped tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until thickened.

  5. Make small wells in the sauce and gently crack the eggs into each well.

  6. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 5–7 minutes until the eggs are just set (you can leave the yolks runny or firm).

  7. Remove from heat and garnish with parsley and crumbled feta if using.

  8. Serve hot with warm bread.

💡 Tips:

  • You can add spinach, mushrooms, or chickpeas for extra nutrition.

  • For spicy shakshuka, increase the chili flakes or add harissa paste.
