🍜 Authentic Pad Thai Recipe
Introduction:
Pad Thai is one of Thailand’s most beloved street foods. It's a stir-fried noodle dish packed with a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and salty flavors, combined with chewy rice noodles, crunchy peanuts, and fresh lime.
📝 Ingredients:
For the Sauce:
-
3 tbsp tamarind paste
-
3 tbsp fish sauce (or soy sauce for vegetarian)
-
1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
-
2 tbsp brown sugar
-
1 tsp chili flakes (adjust to taste)
For the Noodles:
-
200g (7 oz) flat rice noodles
-
2 tbsp vegetable oil
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
150g (5 oz) chicken breast or shrimp (optional)
-
2 eggs, lightly beaten
-
1 cup bean sprouts
-
2 green onions, chopped
-
1/4 cup crushed peanuts
-
Lime wedges (for serving)
👨🍳 Instructions:
-
Soak the noodles:
Soak rice noodles in warm water for 20–30 minutes until soft. Drain and set aside. -
Make the sauce:
In a small bowl, mix tamarind paste, fish sauce, oyster sauce (if using), brown sugar, and chili flakes. Stir well and set aside. -
Cook the protein:
Heat oil in a pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add garlic and stir-fry for 10 seconds. Add chicken or shrimp and cook until done. -
Add the eggs:
Push the meat to the side. Pour the beaten eggs into the pan and scramble until just cooked. -
Add noodles and sauce:
Add the soaked noodles to the pan. Pour in the sauce and toss everything together until the noodles absorb the sauce (about 2–3 minutes). -
Add veggies:
Stir in bean sprouts and green onions. Cook for another minute. -
Serve:
Plate the Pad Thai, top with crushed peanuts and serve with lime wedges. Garnish with more bean sprouts and green onions if desired.
✅ Tips:
-
You can substitute chicken/shrimp with tofu for a vegetarian version.
-
Adjust sweetness or sourness by tweaking the sugar or tamarind amounts.
